01 A plague lab worker died, and Russia won't say why.
A 28-year-old researcher at Russia's Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute died last week from pneumonia of "unknown" origin. The lab studies plague and other dangerous pathogens. Russian officials say no organisms tied to her work showed up in her samples, but they sent the head of the country's infectious disease agency to the region anyway and placed the hospital ward under quarantine.
Nearly 200 people are reportedly under observation. The World Health Organization says the public health risk appears low. Pneumonic plague is deadly but hard to catch, and you'd need heavy exposure. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that the US is watching closely.
02 Ozempic patients keep reporting a side effect nobody promised.
People taking GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Ozempic for weight loss keep noticing something unexpected: their joint pain goes away, their skin clears up, or they sleep through the night for the first time in years.
Jen Weaver had rheumatoid arthritis so painful she woke twice every night, and after starting a GLP-1 the pain stopped. Sarah Landstrom had a chronic skin condition that disappeared on Wegovy and came back when she stopped. Researchers are finding the drugs appear to fight inflammation directly, not just through weight loss.
Immune cells carry receptors GLP-1 drugs can bind to, which may tell the cells producing inflammatory molecules to calm down.

03 Stem cell clinics want the FDA to make them legitimate.
The stem cell industry has been watching peptides closely. After years in a regulatory gray zone, compounded peptides got a path to legitimacy through the FDA this year, and now stem cell clinics want the same treatment. One entrepreneur expects FDA roundtables on stem cells before the end of the year.
Both fall under regenerative medicine, the umbrella term for therapies that claim to trigger the body's own healing. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as chemical messengers. Stem cells can develop into different types of tissue. Right now, hundreds of clinics operate without FDA approval, offering treatments the agency has repeatedly warned against.
