01  Rodents were living next to the baby formula.

A federal court just ordered a Minneapolis warehouse to stop shipping the baby formula, food, supplements, and medicine it holds for stores.

When FDA inspectors went in last winter, they found 9 live rodents, 17 dead ones, and live birds inside, with droppings, urine stains, and chewed holes around the products. This wasn't new. State inspectors had been there 26 times since 2013 and kept finding problems, and the warehouse stayed open.

Twelve years of inspections, and it took a judge to finally stop it.

02  Antioxidant pills can backfire.

Everyone's been told antioxidants fight cancer, and the vitamin aisle was built on it. The biggest trials tell a different story.

Researchers gave beta-carotene and vitamin A pills to more than 18,000 smokers expecting fewer lung cancers. Instead, lung cancer went up 28 percent and deaths went up 17 percent, and the trial was stopped early. A Finnish trial of 29,000 smokers found the same thing. Later, a study of 35,000 men found vitamin E pills raised prostate cancer risk by 17 percent.

The trouble showed up with high-dose pills, not with the same nutrients in real food.

03  They want to edit your genes to lower cholesterol.

Statins weren't enough. Now drug companies are testing a shot that permanently rewrites your DNA.

In a first-in-human trial at Cleveland Clinic, 15 patients got one infusion of a CRISPR drug called CTX310. It switches off a gene in the liver for good. At the highest dose, cholesterol dropped by about half after a year.

That's only 15 people and one year of data, for a change that can never be undone. Nobody knows what it does over 20 or 30 years. But if it holds up, it could be the end of daily cholesterol pills.

✿ WILD STORY

Here is what real love for a dog looks like.

A Wyoming man let his dog Diesel outside and heard a yelp. He ran out and found a young mountain lion attacking Diesel. Adam Borkhus kicked the lion in the face, it knocked him to the ground, and the two wrestled for about 20 seconds before it ran off.

Man and dog both made it. The worst part for him was four rabies shots, which he called "excruciating."

✿ ONE GOOD THING

A high school class just saved a man's life.

Ethan learned CPR in a sports medicine class at Spanaway Lake High School in Washington. In July, he got to use it. A man named Vincent's heart suddenly stopped, and Ethan grabbed a defibrillator and helped keep him alive until firefighters arrived.

This month, Vincent got to meet Ethan and say thank you.
