01 Which checkups remain free? RFK's new team.
Kennedy just named 8 new members to the Preventive Services Task Force. It is the small federal panel that decides which screenings your insurance has to cover for free.
When it gives a screening a top grade, the law forces insurers to cover it with no copay. That is why mammograms, colon cancer screening, statins, and HIV-prevention pills cost you nothing today.
Kennedy had frozen the panel for a year and pushed out its two vice-chairs. A 2025 Supreme Court ruling now lets him hire and fire members at will.
Nothing has been cut yet. The free list could grow as easily as it shrinks, so it will be worth watching what this new team decides to keep.
02 Wait, maybe your Wi-Fi does hurt you? Government now investigating.
HHS just opened a formal review of whether cellphones, Wi-Fi, and 5G can harm your health.
Today's safety limits only check one thing: whether the signal heats your tissue. This review asks a bigger question, whether everyday low-level exposure does anything else. The agency wants the public and doctors to send in evidence, with special attention to kids, pregnant women, and people with implants.
For the first time in years, the safety of the devices in your pocket and on your wall is back on the table.

✿ QUICK HITS — ON OUR RADAR
A “gluten-free” flour was recalled for containing wheat. GF Blends pulled three products, its Truly AIP flour, its Truly AIP bread mix, and its EAT G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. pizza mix, after testing found the plantain flour inside was contaminated with gluten. It sold nationwide on Amazon to the one group that cannot have it: people with celiac disease.
Most grocery-store delis are failing at safe food handling. A new FDA report on 438 delis found the most common violations were food held at unsafe temperatures and poor handwashing.
Bacon-and-cheddar chips at Save A Lot were recalled for hidden soy. Saratoga Potato Chips pulled its J. HIGGS Loaded Bacon & Cheddar chips over undeclared soy, sold at Save A Lot stores across five states.
Sticking with an exercise program cut the risk of dying from cancer by about a quarter. A review of structured programs found people who kept at them were 26% less likely to die of cancer and 18% less likely to die of any cause.
Whole grains may have a “sweet spot.” Across 87 trials, their heart benefits peaked around 60 to 100 grams a day, about four to six servings, with little gain beyond that.

✿ WILD STORY
Here is a reason to take your dentures out before bed.
A 75-year-old man accidentally swallowed his dentures.
Doctors first tried to let them pass on their own. A few days later he was in serious pain, and surgery found the dentures had torn a hole in his colon and started an infection.
Surgeons removed the damaged section, repaired it, and he made a full recovery.

Cost must be met: it costs a lot to develop and test a drug. But there are many who will “chip in” to pay that cost. — Lynda
If there was no way to make money or recoup costs, companies wouldn't make these treatments. Hopefully this is a case where insurance is helpful. It should be! — Cooper
✿ ONE GOOD THING
Scientists just built a brain implant that let a person who cannot move or speak both talk and gesture again. It reads their brain signals and drives an on-screen avatar that speaks for them and moves its hands as they think.
Until now, these implants could manage one thing at a time, usually slow word-by-word text. This one runs both at once, in real time.
For people with ALS or paralysis, it is a real step toward a full, natural way to talk again.
