The White House banned the most dangerous gain-of-function research: experiments that make a virus more contagious or deadly on purpose. It is the same work at the center of the COVID lab-leak theory.

For years, a small government panel reviewed the riskiest studies in private, and very few ever got that scrutiny at all. The new order ends that and cuts off the federal money.

It is not a full ban. A case-by-case exception path stays open, and the full oversight system will not be in place until 2027.

Some dentists are now treating early cavities with a peptide gel instead of drilling. Enamel is the hard outer shell of your tooth.
